Why I Created "Take a Pause" Lumibloom Experience: A Personal Story

A little personal story behind Lumibloom's first workshop. . .
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about what it actually means to take a pause.
For a long time, I think I imagined slowing down as something that needed a lot of time.
A free afternoon.
A quiet house.
A day without responsibilities.
And honestly, those moments don't happen very often, especially as a mother, while building something I care about and simply trying to keep up with everyday life.
But slowly, I've started to realize that a pause doesn't always have to look like that.
Sometimes, it's much smaller.
It's making myself a cup of tea in the morning.
Lighting one of my favorite candles.
Reading my Bible or a few pages of a good book.
Writing whatever is on my mind in my journal.
Taking a few deep breaths before the day really begins.
Sometimes it's only ten minutes.
But those few minutes can change how I enter the rest of my day.

Lumibloom was born from a season of change
When I moved to the Netherlands several years ago, so much of my life changed.
I got married, became a mother and found myself building a life away from the place I had always called home.
Motherhood especially changed something in me.
It's beautiful, but it can also be a season where so much of your attention naturally goes towards everyone and everything around you.
Somewhere in all of those changes, I started asking myself:
Where am I in all of this?
Not only as a mother, a wife or someone trying to build a new life, but simply as me.
Creating has always been one of the ways I find my way back.
I've always loved making things with my hands. There's something about being creative that quiets everything else for a while.
You stop thinking about the next thing you need to do.
You're just there.
And eventually, candle making became part of that for me too.
That is one of the reasons Lumibloom became more than simply a candle business.

It was never only about the candle
Of course, I love creating candles.
I love choosing the scent, pouring the wax, designing the labels and seeing a finished candle sitting quietly on a table.
But what has become even more meaningful to me is what happens when you light it.
It creates a moment, a space for yourself
Maybe you light it while having your morning tea.
Maybe while journaling.
Maybe after putting the children to bed.
Maybe while reading, praying or simply sitting quietly after a long day.
The candle doesn't create the pause for us.
But sometimes, it can remind us to create one for ourselves.
And that has slowly become such an important part of what I want Lumibloom to stand for.
Light with intention, bloom with grace.
And that's where Take a Pause came from
When I started thinking about creating Lumibloom's first workshop, I knew I didn't want it to be only:
Come and learn how to make a candle.
There are already beautiful candle-making workshops for that.
I wanted to create something that felt closer to the reason I started Lumibloom in the first place.
An experience.
A table where a small group of women could come together and leave the outside world behind for a little while.
Where we could make something with our hands without worrying about making it perfect.
Drink tea.
Write.
Create with flowers.
Talk.
Maybe meet someone new.
Or simply enjoy being quiet for a moment.
And, of course, make a candle that holds a little piece of that afternoon.

Bloom in your own time
The words Bloom in Your Own Time became an important part of this workshop because they're also something I need to hear myself.
It's easy to look around and feel like you should be further ahead.
Further in your career.
Further in your business.
More certain about life.
More successful.
More confident.
More… something.
I'm learning that life doesn't always move according to the timeline we imagined for ourselves.
There are seasons when everything seems to be blooming.
And there are seasons when the growth is happening quietly underneath the surface.
Both are still part of growing.
I don't think we need to wait until we've figured everything out before allowing ourselves to appreciate where we are.
You can be a work in progress and still be worthy of the pause.

Something to bring home with you
That's also why I wanted everyone to leave the workshop with their own little Take a Pause Ritual Gift Bag.
Throughout the afternoon, we'll slowly fill it with the things we've created - your candle, your reflections, your dried flowers and a few little reminders from the experience.
Not because you need more things.
But because I hope they become little invitations when you get home.
Light your candle.
Make the tea.
Open your journal.
Put your phone down for a few minutes.
Breathe.
Pray.
Sit.
Create.
Whatever a pause looks like for you.
It doesn't need to be an hour.
It doesn't need to look beautiful.
And it definitely doesn't need to be perfect.
Sometimes ten quiet minutes are enough to remind yourself that you're here too.
My first Lumibloom workshop 🤍
There's something quite vulnerable about creating something for the first time and putting it out into the world.
I've spent a lot of time thinking about the little details of this afternoon - the candle, the scent, the tea, the flowers, the journal prompts, the table and how I want people to feel when they walk into the room.
But underneath all those details, my hope is actually very simple.
I hope you arrive carrying whatever your life looks like that day…
and leave feeling just a little lighter.
A little more present.
And reminded that you don't need to rush your own becoming.
This is Take a Pause: Bloom in Your Own Time.
Lumibloom's first little gathering around the table.
And I'm really looking forward to sharing it with you.

You don't need to have everything figured out to be growing.
Bloom slowly. Bloom in your own time. 🤍
